Background
Dr. Eugene H. Kong is an Assistant Professor in the BioResource and Agricultural Engineering Department at Cal Poly. His background spans mechanical engineering, combustion, electrochemical energy conversion, and engineering education, with an emphasis on translating fundamental energy technologies into practical solutions for agricultural and biological systems.
His current work focuses on developing sustainable energy systems that convert agricultural residues and waste streams into useful fuels, electricity, and functional materials. By integrating electrochemistry, catalysis, combustion, and biomass utilization, his research seeks to develop decentralized technologies that can support more sustainable and circular food and agricultural systems.
Prior to joining Cal Poly, Dr. Kong was an Assistant Professor at Grand Canyon University, where he taught courses in mechanical engineering and engineering design and mentored capstone projects. He received his Ph.D. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southern California and his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley.
