Water Science Minor
The Water Science minor emphasizes one of three areas of study: Irrigation, Water Policy, or Watershed Management. In California, 41% of the water diverted from rivers and streams is used for agriculture. Irrigation water use and management have tremendous impacts upon ground water quality, power usage, crop yield, surface water supplies and quality, drainage problems, and water availability for transfer to urban uses.
The area of irrigation water management is a "growth area". Employers looking for employees right now include irrigation equipment manufacturers, irrigation dealers, government regulatory agencies, conservation districts, farmers, agricultural support industries, and water districts. For students interested in the environment and water, the Water Sciences minor provides marketable skills.
