Cal Poly experience:
B.S. Agricultural Engineering, 1979
What he does now:
Plant Manager of the Morro Bay Power Plant
After graduating from Cal Poly’s Agricultural Engineering Department, Mr. Goschke started his engineering career with the Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s Mechanical & Nuclear Engineering Department, Advanced Generation Group. His main responsibilities were associated with Wind Power Plants that PG&E owned and purchased power from, but he was also involved with advanced gas turbine technology development, Computer Integrated Engineering implementation, and numerous solar and fuel cell power plant projects. In 1988 he moved to the central coast to provide on-site engineering support for the many plant upgrades that the Morro Bay Power Plant required. In 1998 he was promoted to Plant Manager where he continues to lead the plant, emphasizing safety, environmental compliance, treating employees well, ensuring excellent plant performance, running a profitable business, and maintaining good community relations.
Why he recommends Cal Poly's BRAE department:
"The BRAE curriculum provided me a well-rounded and practical education in Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical/Instrumentation Engineering. The education I received, emphasized hands on involvement, and provided me a solid foundation for learning how to learn. The knowledge and skills that I acquired at Cal Poly have allowed me to have a successful and fulfilling professional career in the power industry."
